About Amara

Amara Nwosu is one of West Africa's most respected cybersecurity executives, with over 18 years of experience protecting critical financial infrastructure across the continent. She began her career as a junior network analyst at a Lagos-based commercial bank before earning her CISSP and CISM certifications and steadily rising through the ranks to her current role as CISO for a pan-African banking group with operations in 11 countries and more than 3,000 endpoints under management. In her current position, Amara leads a 45-person security team that she built largely from scratch over a five-year period. One of her proudest achievements was reducing mean time to detect (MTTD) intrusions from over 72 hours to under 4 hours by deploying a custom SIEM playbook integrated with regional threat intelligence feeds. She also spearheaded the bank's migration to a Zero Trust network architecture — one of the first financial institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa to fully implement the model at enterprise scale. Amara holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Lagos and an MSc in Information Security from Royal Holloway, University of London. She is a founding board member of the African Women in Cybersecurity Initiative and regularly speaks at international conferences including RSA and the African Union Cybersecurity Forum. She is currently focused on building AI-assisted anomaly detection capabilities for the bank's fraud operations division.
